Running Pace Calculator
Distance + time → pace per mile & per km, speed and splits
Running pace is simply time ÷ distance. Enter how far you ran and your finish time, and this tool returns your pace per kilometre and per mile, your speed in km/h and mph, and an even-split table so you know what time to hit at each marker. One mile is 1.609 km, so per-mile pace ≈ per-km pace × 1.609.
Even splits
Cumulative time to hit at each marker if you hold an even pace.

The formula
pace (per km) = total time (s) ÷ distance (km)
pace (per mi) = pace per km × 1.609344
speed (km/h) = distance (km) ÷ total time (h) Have a recent race time? Use the race time predictor to project your 5K, 10K, half and marathon, and the heart-rate zone calculator to set effort targets.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate running pace?
Pace is time divided by distance. Convert your finish time to seconds, divide by the distance, and express the result per mile or per kilometre. For example, 25 minutes (1500 s) over 5 km is 1500 ÷ 5 = 300 s/km, which is 5:00 per km.
How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?
One mile is 1.609 km, so multiply your per-km pace by 1.609 to get per-mile pace. A 5:00/km pace is about 8:03 per mile. To go the other way, divide your per-mile pace by 1.609.
What is the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is time per unit distance (minutes per km or mile) — lower is faster. Speed is distance per unit time (km/h or mph) — higher is faster. They are inverses: 6:00/km equals 10 km/h.
What are even splits?
Even splits mean running each segment of a race at the same pace. This calculator lists the cumulative time you should hit at each kilometre or mile marker if you hold an even pace, which is a reliable pacing strategy for most distance races.
